setup Guidelines

To find a local dial up number for almost anyplace in the U. S.:
1. Enter the Area Code you will be calling from.
2. Then click Submit.

Area Code:

To find all dial up numbers for a State in the U. S.:
1. Select the State or Province you will be calling from.
2. Then click Submit.

State:

Please note that NTD AthenetAmerica numbers are limited to 200 hours of usage per month.

Instructions for setting up your computer to dial into AthenetAmerica

If you have a machine with Windows:

Instructions for WXP

  1. Click on Start, then Control Panel. In Control Panel, click on "Network and Internet Connections".
  2. Then, click on "setup or change your Internet Connection".
  3. Now, click the connections tab and Click the setup button. The New Connection Wizard will start. Click next.
  4. Then, make sure "Connect to the Internet" is selected and click next. Make sure "setup my connection manually" is selected, and click next. Make sure "Connect using a dial-up modem" is selected and click next.
  5. For the ISP Name, type Athenet America and click next.
  6. Now, type the phone number for your location from the locator tool above, and click next.
  7. Then, in all lower case letters, type your user name @athenet.net (i.e.: johndoe@athenet.net) and your password. (You'll have to type the password twice to confirm it.) Then, make sure the first two boxes are checked but do not check the box "Turn on Internet Connection Firewall", and click next.
  8. Your NTD Athenet America connection is now complete. Check the box next to "Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop", if you wish, and then click finish.

AthenetAmerica setup instructions for W98 Second Edition, ME or 2000

W98, 95, or NT with Explorer 5 or newer
  1. Click Start, then Settings, then Control Panel. In Control Panel, double-click on Internet Options.
  2. In Internet Options, click on the Connections tab, then click the Setup button. Select the last option, I want to setup my connection manually and click Next.
  3. Select I use a phone line and modem and click Next. Uncheck the box next to Dial using the area code and country code.
  4. Then, type the phone number for your location from the locator tool above, and click next.
  5. Next, in all lower case letters, type your user name @athenet.net (i.e.: johndoe@athenet.net) and your password. (You'll have to type the password twice to confirm it.) Then click Next.
  6. For connection name, enter NTD Athenet America, and click Next.
  7. Your will be asked if you want to setup an Internet mail account. Answer No and click Next.
  8. Your Internet connection is complete! Uncheck the box and click Finish to complete the setup. On your desktop, click on Internet Explorer to connect to the Internet, and Outlook Express to send and receive your email.
With Internet Explorer 4
  1. Click Start then Settings, then Control Panel. In Control Panel, double-click on Internet.
  2. In Internet Options, click on the Connections tab, then click the Connect button.
  3. Click Next. Select the middle option, I have an existing Internet account using my phone line... and click Next.
  4. Select Connect using my phone line and click Next. Uncheck the box next to Dial using the area code and country code.
  5. Then, type the phone number for your location from the locator tool above, and click next.
  6. Next, in all lower case letters, type your user name @athenet.net (i.e.: johndoe@athenet.net) and your password. (You'll have to type the password twice to confirm it.) Then click Next.
  7. You will be asked to change the advanced settings for this connection. Answer No and click Next. For connection name, enter Athenet America, and click Next.
  8. You will be asked if you want to setup an Internet mail account. Answer No and click Next.
  9. You will then be asked if you want to setup an Internet news account. Answer No and click Next.
  10. You will then be asked if you want to setup your Internet directory service. Answer No and click Next.
  11. Your Internet connection is complete! Click on Finish to complete the setup.
  12. On your desktop, click on Internet Explorer to connect to the Internet and Outlook Express to send and receive your email.

If you have a Macintosh:

OS 7.1 - 7.5.5 (Users will have one of two dialers)

Free PPP
  1. Click Apple...then Control panel...then Free PPP setup (If tabs are not viewable click drop down arrow)
  2. Click on Accounts tab
  3. Phone number: Change to new number (see front page for your dial-in number)
  4. Username: Change username _____________ @athenet.net (be sure to include the @athenet.net)
  5. Click Ok

Config PPP
  1. Click Apple...then Control panel...then Config PPP
  2. Click Config button
  3. Phone number: Change to new number (see front page for your dial-in number)
  4. Click Authentication button
  5. Authentication ID: Change username ______________ @athenet.net (be sure to include the @athenet.net)
  6. Click Ok

OS 8.0

  1. Click Apple...then Control panel...then PPP
  2. Username: Change username ______________ @athenet.net (be sure to include the @athenet.net)
  3. Phone number: Change to new number (see front page for your dial-in number)

OS 8.5 and greater (NOTE: OS 9.0 Imac users will use these instructions)

  1. Click Apple...then Control panel...the Remote Access
  2. Username: Change username _____________ @athenet.net (be sure to include the @athenet.net)
  3. Phone number: Change to new number (see front page for your dial-in number)
