Windows 95, 98, or NT with Internet Explorer 4.
- Click Start, then Settings, then Control Panel. In Control Panel, double-click on Internet. If you have Internet Options instead of just Internet, then try the Internet Explorer 5 instructions.
- You will probably want to change the homepage address. Your homepage is the first web page that opens when you start Internet Explorer. Our home page is "www.athenet.net" - click Apply when done.
- In Internet Properties, click on the Connections tab, then click the Connect button.
- Select the middle option, I have an existing Internet account using my phone line..., and click Next.
- Select Connect using my phone line and click Next. Uncheck the box next to Dial using the area code and country code.
- Now type your local NTD Athenet access number. Remember to check with your local telephone company to make sure that the number you choose is a local toll-free call. Click Next.
- Using all lower case letters, type your user name and your password. Click Next.
- For connection name, enter NTD Athenet. Click Next.
- You will be asked if you want to setup an Internet mail account. Answer Yes and click Next.
- If asked, select Create a new mail account and click Next.
- Enter your display name. This can be what ever you want, but when you send email, this is who the recipiant will see your email as being from. When finished, click Next.
- Enter your email address and click Next.
- You will be asked for the names of the email servers. POP3 at the top of this page is correct. For Incoming mail, type pop.athenet.net and for Outgoing mail, type mail.athenet.net. Then click Next.
- Enter your password again. You can leave the "Remember Password" box checked if you wish. Click Next.
- Leave the friendly name as it is for the email account and click Next.
- You will then be asked if you want to setup an Internet news account. Answer No and click Next.
- You will then be asked if you want to setup your Internet directory service. Answer No and click Next.
- Click Finish.
Your computer is now ready for the Internet!
