Windows XP dial-up and email install instructions.
Setting up the Windows XP dial-up connection:
- Click on Start, then Control Panel. In Control Panel, click on Network and Internet Connections if that is on this page.
- Open Internet Options.
- You will probably want to change the homepage address. Your homepage is the first web page that opens when you start Internet Explorer. Our home page is "www.athenet.net" - click Apply when done.
- Now, click the connections tab and click the setup button. The New Connection Wizard will start. Click Next.
- Make sure Connect to the Internet is selected and click Next.
- Click the circle next to setup my connection manually to select it and click Next.
- Make sure Connect using a dial-up modem is selected and click Next.
- For the ISP Name, type NTD Athenet and click Next.
- Now type your local NTD Athenet access number. Remember to check with your local telephone company to make sure that the number you choose is a local toll-free call. Click Next.
- Using all lower case letters, type your user name and your password. (You'll have to type the password twice to confirm it.) Make sure the first two boxes are checked and uncheck the box next to Turn on Internet Connection Firewall. Click Next.
- Your NTD Athenet connection is now complete. If you wish, check the box next to Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop. Click Finish.
Setting up Outlook Express for your email:
- Click on Start, then All Programs, then Outlook Express.
- If you see a screen asking if you want to make Outlook Express the default mail client, click Yes.
- If you see a screen asking for your display name, proceed to the next step, Otherwise, click on Tools, then Accounts. On the Internet Accounts screen, click Add, then Mail.
- Enter your display name. This can be what ever you want, but when you send email, this is who the recipiant will see your email as being from. When finished, click Next.
- Enter your email address and click Next.
- You will be asked for the names of the email servers. POP3 at the top of this page is correct. For Incoming mail, type pop.athenet.net and for Outgoing mail, type mail.athenet.net. Then click Next.
- Enter your password again. You can leave the "Remember Password" box checked if you wish. Click Next.
- Click Finish.
Your computer is now ready for the Internet!
