Senior Datacenter Engineer
As part of the datacenter engineering team, I design, install, and support all datacenter equipment and software. Daily activities include responding to escalated support issues, implementing planned changes and upgrades, and automating daily support tasks using a variety of tools. Supplementary activities include providing network infrastructure consulting and custom programming services. My primary current focus is on designing and implementing a major network infrastructure upgrade to improve system speed and reliability. This will involve upgrading or replacing nearly all of our 200+ core and CPE routers.

I instruct networking courses targeted at second year students. The classes include: "Converged Telecommunications", "Network Design and Implementation", "Hardware Support" and "Network Hardware Technologies". "Converged Telecommunications" covers the fundamental theories of packet video and voice followed by instruction on configuration of the Cisco CallManager voice-over-IP PBX system. "Network Design and Implementation" covers the installation and integration of today's multi-vendor networks. The primary focus is on integrating Novell Netware, Windows 2000 Server, and Redhat Linux into a seamless network. "Hardware Support" covers basic and advanced PC hardware configuration and troubleshooting. It is based on and taught from the A+ series certification manuals. "Network Hardware Technologies" covers fundamental network knowledge such as data encapsulation, basic routing and switching mechanisms, and introduces students to the art of configuring Cisco routers for IP and IPX routing.

My duties included a mixture of both pre-sales and post-sales activities including sales engineering activities, RFP/RFQ responses, and installation project management. I have led a number of significant network infrastructure upgrades including the redesign of the LAN/MAN at a major multi-national corporation. I have installed and supported a number of key technologies including: Citrix Metaframe, Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, and 2003, Microsoft Exchange, and the full line of Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and VPN concentrators.

As a mid-level network technician, my responsibilities included the day-to-day maintenance of Kimberly Clark.s international data network. My core tasks included installation of all levels of network infrastructure equipment for the North and South American region including the installation and operation of several Cisco Catalyst 5500 and later 6500 series switches, LS1010 ATM switches, and numerous types of routers spanning Cisco.s product line. My supplementary responsibilities included upgrading and stabilizing the remote access dial-up services and their related security services including the RSA SecurID systems. After successfully improving the reliability of the remote access services, I inherited the day-to-day maintenance of the company.s multi-site ATM/SONET network. I also provided primary technical configuration for the ATM switches facilitating a new multiple DS3 connection to AT&T.s frame-relay/ATM network.
